چکیده

Following unilateral section of the trigeminal third division, the ipsilateral mesencephalic neurons showed severe shrinkage with central chromatolysis and nuclear eccentricity while the motor neurons showed mild swelling. Histochemical reactions in the mesencephalic neurons were mostly characterized by the decreased activity of phosphorylase after 16hrs and concomitant diminution of PAS-positive substances. The increased activities of G6PDH and ACP were recognized in almost all neurons of both nuclei and in adjacent neuroglial cells. The neuropil in the motor nucleus showed remarkable decrease of SDH, ALD and LDH activities after 10 days. The results obtained were discussed in relation to chromatolysis, protein synthesis and carbohydrate metabolism in the affected neurons and surrounding neuropil.

Electron microscopic observations in the trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus following neurotomy of the third division of the trigeminal nerve.

The trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus was studied with an electron microscope after neurotomy of the third division of the trigeminal nerve in rats. Neuronal ultrastructures were characterized by the changes of the cell organelles 17hrs after neurotomy. Especially numerous polysomes appeared in the perinuclear area and then migrated into the peripheral area. Concomitantly, the central area of th...

Afferent projections of the trigeminal nerve in the goldfish, Carassius auratus.

The horseradish peroxidase (HRP) histochemical technique was used to examine the peripheral distribution and afferent projections of the trigeminal nerve in the goldfish, Carassius auratus. Sensory fibers of the trigeminal nerve distribute over the head via four branches. The ophthalmic branch distributes fibers to the region above the eye and naris. The maxillary and mandibular branches innerv...

Detection of Glycoconjugate Changes in the Embryonic Trigeminal Nucleus in Balb/C Mouse by Lectin Histochemistry

Purpose: Determination of changes of glycoconjugates, which have special terminal sugars, in embryonic developmental processes of brain stem and trigeminal nucleus in Balb/C mouse. Materials and Methods: In this study mice embryos between 10-17 embryonic days were used. They were fixed according to ordinary laboratory procedures. The specimens were embedded in paraffin and serial sections with...

Acipenser oxyrhynchus and Scaphirhynchus platorynchus

Horseradish peroxidase histochemical studies of afferent and efferent projections of the trigeminal nerve in two species of chondrostean fishes revealed medial, descending and ascending projections. Entering fibers of the trigeminal sensory root project medially to terminate in the medial trigeminal nucleus, located along the medial wall of the rostral medulla. Other entering sensory fibers tur...

Fine structure of the mesencephalic nucleus of the trigeminal nerve in the rat.

Since Cajal's day, numerous morphological and neurophysiological studies on the mesencephalic nucleus of the trigeminal nerve have accumulated (CAJAL, 1909; MAY and HORSLEY, 1910; WEINBERG, 1928; CORBIN and HARRISON, 1940; SZENTAGOTHAI, 1948; etc.). On the basis of these studies, it is generally accepted that the peripheral processes of the large unipolar cells terminate in the muscles of masti...
